Meeting Notice

July 27, 2020

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council’s Standing, Reef Fish, Ecosystem, and Socioeconomic Scientific and Statistical Committees will meet via webinar. The meeting will be held from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, EDT on Tuesday, August 11, 2020; and from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, EDT on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

This webinar meeting will be a review of the August 5, 2020 MRIP State/Federal Private Recreational Red Snapper Data Calibration Workshop Outcomes. The Committees will receive a summary of Gulf State data collection program methods and resulting calibrations to the landings data generated by the Marine Recreational Information Program’s Access Point Angler Intercept Survey and Fishing Effort Survey. The Committees will also review the results of individual state calibrations and state-specific annual catch limits for red snapper. After discussing the calibration methodology and results, the Committees may consider recommendations to the Council. These recommendations may include suggestions to improve transparency in data delivery, management, accessibility and quality control; approaches to  update and improve calibrations; and research efforts needed to inform future data collection efforts to more effectively manage red snapper and other species. The recommendations will also be provided to the Gulf Transition Team that includes federal and state agency partners, who will be tasked with ongoing efforts to revise and improve future calibration efforts.

The Chair will take public comment and questions as time allows.
