Meeting Notice

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a virtual meeting of its Outreach and Education Technical Committee on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM, EDT.
The Committee will hear a summary presentation on shrimp effort data collection. The cellular electronic logbook program no longer automatically transmits effort data due to the expiration of the 3G network. The units are still collecting data, but they’re not automatically transmitting those data to NOAA Fisheries, so shrimpers are being asked to mail in their Secure Digital (SD) cards. Return rates have been relatively low so, the Technical Committee will be asked to develop a communications plan to promote submission of the shrimp fleet effort data.
The Committee will also hear an update on Return ‘Em Right, a program that aims to educate and provide tools to minimize discard mortality. Public comment will be taken before the meeting concludes.
