The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) is seeking applicants to fill an open seat for an Economist to serve on its Standing Scientific and Statical Committee.  Applicants should have an educational background in economics, ideally with familiarity in economic analyses of the management of marine fisheries.

The Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee is comprised of individuals who have expertise in stock assessment or quantitative statistics, fishery biology, marine ecology, economics, sociology, anthropology, or other special sciences as they apply to fisheries management. Members provide independent scientific advice to the Council.  More information on SSC membership and guidelines can be found here: https://gulfcouncil.org/committee-panel-membership/scientific-and-statistical/

SSC members are appointed by the Council and serve a 3-year term.  This appointment is in the middle of a term-cycle, so any appointed member would need to reapply in June 2024.  Eligible members are reimbursed for approved travel expenses and receive a daily stipend for their work.

Application Deadline: Interested applicants should apply here and also submit their resume and Statement of Financial Interest Form (SOFI) by 12:00 PM noon, on March 15, 2023 to the following email address:  [email protected]

If you have any questions, please contact the Council office at 813-348-1630.
