January 29, 2024

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will host a one-day meeting of its Coastal Migratory Pelagics (CMP) Advisory Panel (AP).  The meeting will convene on February 13, 2024 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, EST.  The meeting will be held at the Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.

The Coastal Migratory Pelagics Advisory Panel will address the following:

Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) Pilot Study

The AP will receive an update on a pilot study that recently found that the program could be overestimating private recreational effort.  The AP will also hear proposed next steps.

Gulf Migratory Group Spanish Mackerel

The AP will review the latest stock assessment (SEDAR 81) of the Gulf Migratory Group of Spanish mackerel and hear a report on feedback received though the Council’s Fisherman Feedback tool for Spanish mackerel.  The AP will also hear recommendations for Spanish mackerel catch limits generated by the Council’s scientific advisors, the Scientific and Statistical Committee.  The AP will then discuss a draft framework amendment that considers modifying Gulf Spanish mackerel catch limits.

Coastal Migratory Pelagic Outreach Effort

The AP will participate in a CMP Workshop designed to gather insight from a broad variety of stakeholders on CMP species.  This effort is designed to supplement the South Atlantic Council’s CMP Port Meeting effort and holistically inform future Gulf Council CMP management actions.

Public comment will be held in-person and over the webinar before the meeting adjourns.

An agenda and meeting materials will be posted on our Advisory Panel Meetings webpage when they are available.
