December 26, 2023

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will host a two-day meeting of its Ad Hoc Charter For-Hire Advisory Panel (AP). The meeting will be held Wednesday, January 10, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, EST and Thursday, January 11, from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, EST. The meeting will be held at the Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.

The Ad Hoc Charter For-Hire Advisory Panel was formed to advise the Council as it works on a document that will consider establishing a for-hire data collection program to replace the Southeast For-Hire Integrated Electronic Reporting Program (SEFHIER).  The Panel is charged with providing Gulf-wide stakeholder insight on the development of a new electronic data collection program for the charter for-hire and headboat fishing industries.

The AP will review past discussions on charter for-hire and headboat data collection and discuss program goals and objectives for a new data collection program. The AP will then hear a summary of data collected through the Southeast For-Hire Integrated Electronic Reporting (SEFHIER) Program and provide recommendations to consider when developing a new data collection program.

Public comment will be held before the meeting adjourns.

An agenda and meeting materials will be posted on our Advisory Panel Meetings webpage when they are available.
