Meeting Notice

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will meet at The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi from August 19 – 22, 2024.  The meeting will begin with the induction of three new members: Juan “John” Sanchez, Captain Troy Frady, and Jason Osborne. Current members Billy Broussard and Johnathan “JD” Dugas will be sworn-in for their second and third terms, respectively.

 

During this meeting, the Council plans to appoint members to its Recreational Initiative Working Group and its Special Shrimp Scientific and Statistical Committee.  The Council plans to continue work on developing a for-hire data collection program and consider modifying the for-hire buffer and fishing season for red snapper.  The Council will continue work on modifying the requirements for participation in the commercial Individual Fishing Quota Program and review and discuss the Vision Statement for the programs.  The Council plans to consider modifications to the shallow-water and deep-water grouper complexes.  Finally, the Council will review the early adopter program for the shrimp cellular vessel monitoring program and hear an update on the shrimp futures project.

 

The meeting will convene at 8:30 AM, CDT each day.  The full Council will convene for a closed session at 3:30 PM, CDT on Tuesday, August 20th and again for an open session at 10:15 AM, CDT on Wednesday, August 21st. Public Comment will be held from 1:30 – 5:00 PM, CDT on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.  The Council welcomes public comment from both in-person and virtual participants.  Instructions on how to provide comment will be located on the meetings materials webpage as soon as it’s available.
