The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will meet September 28-30, 2020 by webinar. The Council will appoint members to its Coastal Migratory Pelagics and Red Drum Advisory Panels. The Council also plans to discuss the Executive Order on Promoting American Seafood Competitiveness and Economic Growth. The Council will consider public input on ways to reduce barriers to domestic fishing and create a list of recommendations on ways to reduce burdens and increase production from our fishery.


On Monday September 28, 2020 the Council will hear a presentation from NOAA’s Office of Protected Resources on addressing interactions between fishing and dolphins. NOAA Fisheries is currently soliciting input on proposed regulations for safely deterring marine mammals from damaging fishing gear, catch, property, or endangering personal safety.

During the meeting, the public will have two opportunities to interact with the Council. An informal Question and Answer session will be held from 4:30 – 6:00 PM, EDT on Tuesday September 29, 2020. The session will provide the public with an opportunity to ask leaders from the Gulf Council, NOAA Fisheries, and Southeast Regional Science Center questions about the science and management of fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico. Public testimony will be held in the morning from 9:30 – 11:00 AM, EDT on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.


The Council is scheduled to elect a chair and vice chair before the meeting concludes.
