The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a three-day hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual) of its Standing, Reef Fish, Ecosystem, and Socioeconomic Scientific and Statistical Committees. The meeting will be held from 9:00 – 5:00 EST on January 11 – 13, 2022. The meeting will be held at the Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.


Members of the public are welcome to attend in-person. In effort to promote a safe meeting experience, attendees will be required to wear masks and socially distance while moving about the Council offices and meeting space. Attendees may remove masks when seated or when providing public comment.


The Scientific and Statistical Committees will address the following:

  • Review: Absolute Abundance Estimates for Red Snapper, Greater Amberjack, and Other Federally Managed Fish on Offshore Petroleum Platforms in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Review: National Academies of Science Report on the Impacts of Limited Access Privilege Programs in Mixed-Use Fisheries
  • Review: Spatial Coverage and Severity of the 2020/2021 Red Tide on the West Florida Shelf
  • Review: Simulation of the Effect of Marine Recreational Information Program – Fishing Effort Survey Data on Catch Advice for a Historical King Mackerel Stock Assessment
  • Discussion of Draft Essential Fish Habitat Amendment and Data
  • Status Update on Red Snapper Management and Outstanding Council Motion requesting that the SSC consider the revised Great Red Snapper Count Report and any other new information
  • Summary of Scientific and Statistical Committee Discussion and Recommendations on the Great Red Snapper Count Report from March/April 2020 and September 2020
  • Great Red Snapper Count Report: Re-Analysis of the Florida Natural/Unconsolidated Bottom-Type Data to Include the Random Forest Design Stratification
  • Discussion of Results of Post-Stratification Analysis for Florida Absolute Abundance Data
  • Fishery-Independent Indices Updates for Red Snapper
  • Review of Estimated Commercial Effort Over Uncharacterized Bottom in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Review of Estimated Recreational Effort Over Uncharacterized Bottom in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Summary Discussion and Potential Requests for Updated Southeast Fishery Science Center Red Snapper Interim Analysis for Catch Advice for the March 2022 Scientific and Statistical Committee Meeting
  • Review of National Marine Fishery Service Standardized Bycatch Reporting Methodology


Public comment will be held in-person and over the webinar before the meeting adjourns.
