The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a meeting of its Outreach and Education Technical Committee (Committee) on December 19, 2023 from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST. The meeting will be held at the Council offices located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.

 

The Committee will start by hearing a presentation on the Council and Ecosystem Technical Committee’s progress on the Fishery Ecosystem Plan and communications.  The Committee is expected to provide recommendations on development of an outreach plan to execute for the first fishery ecosystem issue, red tide.  The Committee will then hear an overview of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council’s Coastal Migratory Pelagic Port Meeting effort and suggest strategies appropriate for a complimentary effort in the Gulf of Mexico region.  The Committee will then be briefed on the Councils Recreational Initiative and make preliminary recommendations regarding appropriate communication strategies.

 

Next, the Committee will review the finalized Council Communications Guidelines Book, discuss appropriate communications of illegal sale of recreational fish, and review a management timeline tool.  The Committee will then hear a presentation on its 2023 in-person outreach and engagements and provide feedback on  ideas for 2024.  Finally, the Committee will review 2023 communications analytics and progress on the 2023 Communication Improvement Plan and discuss future communication endeavors and suggest ideas for the 2024 Communications Improvement Plan.
