The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will meet at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Panama City Beach Resort located in Panama City, Florida.  The Council will begin by adopting Council Committee assignments through August 2024.

 

The Council plans to take final action on the following two issues during this meeting: the Comprehensive Amendment to transition commercial vessels to an electronic reporting format and a Framework Action to modify the recreational season and commercial trip limit for greater amberjack.  The Council also plans to discuss development of a for-hire data collection program, implications of the federal recreational data collection program (MRIP-FES) on future management measures, testing of the shrimp cellular vessel monitoring system, commercial individual fishing quota program goals and objectives, recent gag grouper research, and Spanish mackerel and lane snapper catch limits.

 

The Council will convene on Monday, October 23 at 8:00 AM CDT.  The Council will have a closed session beginning at 4:00 PM CDT to populate its newly formed Ad Hoc Charter For-Hire Data Collection Advisory Panel.  Full Council will convene at 11:15 AM CDT on October 25th, 2023 and public testimony will begin at 2:00 PM CDT.
